Crystal Path is a role-playing game for the solo story-teller, offering guided journeys through the magical forests of Edenwood.
With a simple style of gameplay, requiring only a journal and a 20-sided die, the game offers plenty of scope for creative journaling, story-telling, and guided intuitive play.
Set in Edenwood Valley and, more specifically, its enchanted forests, Crystal Path allows the witchy wanderer to explore the world of my tales through their own lens.
Who is this game for?
Whether you enjoy cosy foraging through dappled glades, or dark and misty paths known only to the ghosts of the woods, this game has something to offer lovers of fantasy, narrative craft, journaling, and gaming!
This game is for:
- Writers ~ People who love to write and craft stories looking for a simple way to create a daily writing habit, or who want inspiration and to tease out ideas for stories within a sandbox.
- Journalers ~ Journalers looking for a creative, fiction-based modality for exploring thoughts and feelings, or people who may struggle with more typical journaling styles. Crystal Path offers a means to explore thoughts, feelings, and gain deep personal insights through creative writing within a world brimming with magic.
- Fantasy Gamers ~ People who enjoy games such as D&D who are seeking a game for solo play, or else those who find complex game mechanics and rule-sets overwhelming and wish to try something simpler.
- Readers ~ This game is for lovers of fairy tale fantasy, as well as readers who have enjoyed my tales set in the world of Edenwood Valley. It is for those who wish to experience their own immersive and ethereal adventures exploring the depths of magical woods.
What’s Included
Guidebook
The Crystal Path guidebook is a digital PDF file which contains the following key sections:
- Introduction ~ An overview of the game, it’s premise and purpose, as well as an overview of the materials you will need and how to use them.
- Gameplay ~ Detailed instructions on how the game works, how to create your character, and how to run a game from start to finish.
- Gameplay Resources ~ A printable map (also included as a separate JPG file), some world lore about Edenwood Valley, its realms, creatures, and magic. Guides for customising play, as well as inspiration lists for gameplay elements, such as flora and fauna, etc.
- Gameplay Examples ~ Three example gameplay drafts have been included to demonstrate different styles and purposes of play, as well as how the game rules can translate into creative journal entries.
Reference Cards
Printable reference cards make gameplay easier as players won’t have to constantly scroll through the PDF guidebook to progress through gameplay, making for a smoother game experience.
The reference card files are A4 sized, but can be printed to fit US Letter paper. The cards, when printed at full size, trim down to A7 (74 x 105mm). Printing instructions are included.
Two printable PDF files are available:
- Full colour for aesthetic cards which match the guidebook design; and
- Black & white for a minimal design (with the benefit of saving ink!)
Game Development
This game is complete and playable as is, however it is in Beta development. As such, the Beta version will be made freely available to everyone as a PDF download! Depending on future feedback, I hope to continue to improve the game experience and guidebook.
